Gavar Special School Roof Replacement Project Extends to School Balcony

Los Angeles, December 1, 2007 - After restoring the roof of Gavar #1 Special School in the Gegharkunik Region of the Republic of Armenia, Focus on Children Now, NGO decided to extend the project and repair the balcony of the school. While working on the roof project, FCN's board members working onsite recognized that GSS's balcony had sustained severe weather damage throughout the years of neglect, and risked becoming a serious safety issue for the children and the staff if not addressed quickly.

Emil Mailian, the architect and contractor hired by FCN for the roof project, took on the responsibility to repair the balcony to better protect it from the elements and future structural damage and ultimately help secure the children's safety.

The project involved replacing the existing roof above the balcony, repairing the balcony structure itself with cement and finally sealing it to weatherproof and protect it from future damage.

FCN feels that it was important to ensure the original project, Gavar Special School's roof replacement, was fully completed. This was the final step in ensuring a successful overall project.
