On Saturday, January 10, 2009, Roobik and Carmen Ovanesian along with their children Christina and Christopher opened their landmark Glendale home and hearts to family, friends and public officials in celebration of their Annual Armenian Christmas Party. Over 350 guests of various religious and ethnic backgrounds attended and enjoyed great food, drink, music and conversation.

Ovanesian’s commitment to children’s causes and philanthropy is exemplary, when asked Why children’s organizations mainly? Mr Ovanesian answered “You plant the seeds, and you guide them properly through good values. If you give it enough sun, water and keep the weeds away, it flourishes and becomes a wonderful thing in life”. Following the tradition of last several years, the Ovanesians asked their guests to consider making a donation to a designated Armenian charity focusing on children. The charity they chose to help this year was Focus on Children Now (FCN). The donations collected from Ovanesian’s 2009 Armenian Christmas Celebration will be used to fund FCN’s newly launched “Children’s Nutrition Program.” The program will provide milk and a nutritional snack to students in the town of Bertzor located in the Kashtagh region of Artzakh, once a day, everyday throughout the 2009 academic year.

The over $10,000 donations received from Ovanesian’s January 10, 2009 Armenian Christmas Party, will help provide daily nourishment to over 200 students for an entire school year. This means, 200 students will no longer attend school hungry and can now study on a fuller stomach. The daily milk and snack they will be provided will also help with their mental and physical development and well being.

Focus on Children Now, Inc. is a not for profit organization with the motto to “Break the Poverty Cycle, One Child at a Time.” FCN’s 100% volunteer team, working with a loyal donor base and a trusted network of partners, has been helping impoverished children in need of basic life necessities since 2005 through its various programs.
